To provide an economical single storey day care centre that would extend the range of services offered at the hospital campus whilst providing the option to extend further at a later date by the addition of a second floor.
A cost-effective building structure was provided using precast flooring units at roof level, supported on blockwork cross walls and clad externally with durable and sustainable Ibstock Audley Red Mixture Stock brickwork. The bricks were laid in stretcher bond with brush finish colour mix mortar to give the new building an established visual. To soften the form, curved corners have been created along the full length of the building using special radial bricks. A cantilevered canopy, juxtaposed with a curved sweep of brickwork clearly marks the entrance and provides an attractive focal point for the new centre.
