To create a non-institutional, non-threatening therapeutic environment for the low-secure unit – a state of the art replacement for one of Ireland’s oldest purpose-built mental health facilities.
The architects worked with Ibstock to develop a special brick blend for the external masonry walls that would provide a warm finish with slight grey hue to unify the various single, two and three-storey blocks. To reinforce the contemporary design, the brick detailing was continued to the underside of large exposed soffits using Ibstock Fastwall™ panels, secured to a timber framework fixed to the concrete soffits. The earthy colour of the specially created blend helps to create a natural and less intimidating environment for patients and staff.
