The challenge for this purpose-designed day and residential school for students with social, emotional and behaviour disorder (SEBD), was to create a bright and relaxed living and learning environment with a non-institutional look and feel.
The solution was a design with open plan hubs, generous circulation spaces and carefully positioned staff offices that presented an informal yet supportive environment for students. The three-storey school building is constructed in linear brickwork throughout with facades in Ibstock Smooth Pearl White facing bricks to give a light and welcoming, non-institutional appearance. Panels of vibrant Ibstock Mint Green and Blue Glazed bricks, mirrored to the upper storey using plain coloured panels, break up the building mass and provide an interesting visual contrast.
