YOUR CONCEPT
A brand-new courtyard at the prestigious Royal College of Music (RCM) serves as a stunning centrepiece for the site’s new More Music development.
Representing an investment of more than £40m, the More Music ethos can be found right across the RCM campus, creating an attractive, community-focused atmosphere that is designed to foster creativity and collaboration among the college’s next generation of students.
OUR SOLUTIONS
The main courtyard features 215mm and 328mm self-supporting external walls, built in Flemish bond with brick arches. The walls have been built with lime mortar and allow for movement without relying on mastic joints.
The specification of the bricks for this project was paramount, with the brick needing to be water absorbent and evaporate dry to maximise durability and allow the façade to weather gracefully over time.
PARK CENTRAL
The specification of Ibstock’s Bradgate Red, Laybrook and Black Smooth bricks to the More Music courtyard combines aesthetic appeal with practicality, for a truly stunning finish.
The bricks perfectly meet the contemporary classical design brief, building on the heritage and traditions of the college and neatly referencing the original, Grade II listed structure designed by Arthur Blomfield.
