To replace the small, unsuitable and flood-damaged former 1950s boathouse with a highly-sustainable, modern build capable of providing storage, teaching and other multi-functional space.
Ibstock Linear bricks have been utilised to great effect to realise the elegant elongated form of the building. Linear 440mm brickwork at ground level provides a secure and robust defence against regular flooding, while the rustic Birtley Linear Kings blend, designed specifically for this project, allows the structure to blend with the historic brick embankment and other existing Victorian architecture nearby. Laid in an English Garden Wall Bond with three courses of Linear double length stretchers and one course headers, it complements the diagnonal chestnut cladding of the prow-form upper storey. The incorporation of Ibstock Kevington precast lintels with integral brick faces over all openings and voids, creates continuity of design across this highly-sustainable build.
