To construct six new contemporary accommodation blocks, providing a total of 384 en-suite student rooms, within a tight budget and very limited build schedule that allowed just 27 weeks from planning approval to completion.
Whilst durability and sustainability benefits meant brick was the preferred option, there was a perception the tight time frame would drive the project towards offsite or system construction, limiting design options and adding additional cost. Ibstock’s long-term relationship with the developer, architect and project contractors, meant the team were able to adopt a new approach and more flexible working pattern that allowed them to take full advantage of the speed of brick/block construction. Completing a floor a week and working flexible with other trades, the project was brought to completion on schedule, during one of the wettest summers on record.
